Confidentiality

Beverly Simmons, PhD, LCSW

The client’s confidence that communication with their therapist is privileged is an essential component of effective therapy. In order to provide a higher level of confidentiality to meet the needs of my clients, I have taken extra steps requiring significant investment on my part as a guarantor of your privileged information. Raleigh Psychotherapy operates outside of government and managed care systems, which may direct care and limit confidentiality in the therapist-client relationship.

No one has access to my office without my presence.

I do not practice in a group setting or sublet my office in order to reduce overhead expenses at the price of my client’s confidentiality. I have a private lobby that is exclusively secured for my clients. This is rare to the area as most local practitioners have some sort of space sharing arrangement where you will regularly encounter other people during your visit to a therapist’s office. I also have a separate exit door to allow clients to leave my office without encountering anyone in the foyer, if that is preferred.

I do not employ staff who interact with you or any of your identifying demographic or health care information.

All interactions related to your care and the business aspects of my practice are directly with me. Should anything happen to me that impacts my ability to respond to you (this has never happened and should not be an issue but is a part of the business plan), another clinician who is bound by license and business confidentiality agreement will contact you to notify you of the issue and the plan going forward.

I have opted against participating in a centralized Electronic Medical Record (EMR) that can be mined for data by other providers or parties with access to these centralized EMRs.

If you have additional concerns about confidentiality in relation to our sessions, please speak with me directly about your privileged information and I can work with you to answer any questions or make additional accommodations.
